How to choose running socks?
Every sports activity we choose to do affects our feet. There are quite a few athletes who question the importance of running socks and performance, but the facts are that good socks make a huge difference in your running and sports experience.
In this article we review our types of socks and the differences between them
Socks by activity
The socks on our website are arranged according to your type of activity:
Fitness socks: Fitness is a broad definition but it includes socks that are suitable for the gym or technical socks for interval training or running.
Running socks: there are athletes who prefer really thin socks and those who prefer extra padding in the heel and foot. Our running socks come with a medium level of cushioning in most models for ideal comfort
It is important to understand the materials of the socks
Each of your feet is made up of approximately 250,000 eccrine sweat glands, making your feet one of the sweatiest places on the body. The right fabric in the socks helps absorb and dissipate all that moisture.
Merino wool: The fine, non-itchy fibers of merino wool have effectively replaced the old generation of merino socks. Their biggest advantage is that they are thermostatic (temperature regulating), so your feet stay comfortable in a wide range of temperatures. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in water, which helps feet stay dry in most conditions.
Our merino models can be found here: Jockey Penguin
- Advantages : comfortable in any weather, absorbs and evaporates moisture, cushions, does not itch like simple wool.
- Disadvantages : dries a little slower than synthetic fabric, more expensive.
Synthetic Materials : Our socks often incorporate multiple materials such as spandex, polyamide, and lycra for greater comfort and fit. Nylon and Lycra® help the socks retain their shape, create a snug fit and in some styles of socks provide arch support. All our synthetic fibers are made from recycled materials that wick away moisture to keep your feet dry and prevent blisters.
Advantages : durable, dries quickly, wicks away moisture, padded.
Disadvantages : less comfortable in hot conditions, regulates cold and heat less well when wet
All our models, with the exception of the Jockey Penguin, are made of recycled synthetic materials.
